We left Ghana on Saturday morning around 8.30AM. The day before we left we went to the last U12 and U17's training session to say goodbye to all of the kids. It was a bit emotional as we did stood up in front of them one last time and the captain of the U17's stood up and told us how much he had enjoyed working with us. Was really nice but as I mentioned sad to say our goodbyes. That evening we went to the gas station for a few goodbye drinks with Martin the project organiser and all of the other coaches before walking home for a relatively early night. We arrived home and Freddie, one of the senior squad goalkeepers, came round and handed me and George a letter he had written thanking us for what we had done, really nice finish to our stay.
In the morning we woke early and had a few people come round to say goodbye and we drove to the airport, Desmond one of the kids who came round our house is dead funny....only really young and he just seems to say 'i will cut you' or 'I will stab you' in English...and wanted to come to the airport with us. Goodbye Ghana :(
The journey was long and was slightly marred by the absolute rudeness of Nigerians...long story, can't be arsed to go into it but they were the rudest people we have ever met!!
Hello Thailand
We arrived around 2PM on Sunday and dropped our gear at the hotel before heading out for a look around...what a difference to Ghana! We saw about 12 white people in Ghana but here is so different, Bangkok is a massive backpackers haven and is full of travellers. Complete contrast but it seemed wicked in it's own way. Some nice food and a few beers later we found ourselves in Gullivers watching the Coca Cola Cup Final at midnight due to the time difference (bad luck Paul) and got our groove on before heading to a club. What a night, we ended up getting home around 7am and went straight for breakfast before heading to bed.
The next day we wanted to go to the Muay Thai arena to watch some bouts and were lucky enough to see a title fight. It's such a fast and brutal form of martial arts and we saw a couple of people get carried out on stretchers and a massive KO, awesome to see it in it's traditional arena. (Kev....at the arena was John Wayne Parr, professional kick boxer and K1 champion, doing some filming for some TV show. Not sure if it was for a new contender series?!)
After the Muay Thai finished we headed onto Khaosan Road and met some Finnish and Swedish folk. All sound and we taught a Finnish girl some quality English phrases, including 'Whatever Minger, Jog On You Dilapidated Milf!!!' v.funny night again which ended up with muchos beer consumption before grabbing breakfast and hitting the sack around 8AM!!
Short post for our first few days here but not much to say as it has just been lots of drinking and meeting people from all over the world, drinking buckets of Whiskey, Red Bull and Coke! We are heading North tomorrow to start our hill tribe trek for a few days staying with the locals in rural Thailand so should be able to have more of an insight into traditional Thailand to report on our next blog.
Jog On!!!
(find out what this is in the next installment!)
